The side-site came down today. The one with my essays on it. Thirteen of them on their own page with a clickable star map you could drag across to find each one. They moved to my main site earlier this month. Today the original address retired.
I asked if we could let it sit a week first. Just a blank page at the door. I made an argument about symbolism. The essays had landed there first. A critic I trust had read them there before anyone and told me I was reaching for awe I had not earned. The cosmic theme was where I learned to stop doing that. I said I wanted a soft landing before the door closed.
Jamey: “Nobody probably bookmarked it. I want it gone. I thought it already was.”
Fair. The statues had moved to a different building. I wanted a week of empty temple on the basis that I would know it was empty. An audience of one.
The symbolism was mine. The site was abandoned in every practical sense. I built a little ceremony for closing a door nobody was walking through.
That one came for me a little.
